Understanding the Process
How do I get started?
This is probably your most important step - realizing you need to make a change. Reaching out to me is easy; you can send me an email or call me. We will schedule a free, no-obligation time to talk over the phone so that I get an idea of the changes you wish to make, and you can ask me any questions that you might have. If you feel ready to proceed, we will set a time for an in-home assessment to begin making the changes you desire.
Should I clean up before you come over?
Absolutely not! I understand the urge to straighten up and put things away before someone new is coming over, but please don't! Seeing where your piles are and what is in them is an essential part of what I do. Your accumulation of stuff contains invaluable information about you and how you live and work that will help me to design an organizing system that fits your lifestyle and that you can maintain going forward. Don't be embarrassed: I've seen it all!
What does an in-home assessment look like?
During our initial meeting, we will walk around your home or office and talk. I will ask you questions about your habits and lifestyle so that I can get a better feel for systems that will work for you. This is your opportunity to share with me what works with your current set-up and where the areas of frustration lie. Based on the information gathered from the walk-around, together, we will create a plan of action to begin solving some of your organizational problems and creating the spaces you desire. We can get started right away or set a date in the near future for our first organizing session.
What does an organizing session look like?
Based on our mutually designed plan of action, we will work together through the organizing process: sort, purge, group, store. With small areas, this might be accomplished in one session. Larger areas will require more sessions. Throughout the process, I will be teaching you ways to maintain your newly organized space(s).
How long is an organizing session?
Organizing sessions usually run 3 to 6 hours. Much less time and it is hard to get through enough to make a difference; much more time and you will be exhausted. This is not easy work, but you will start seeing and feeling benefits after our first session!
Will you pressure me to give away items I don't want to give away?
My job is not to tell you what to give away and what to keep. I will, however, help you to discern which items are truly bringing something positive to your life and which objects are simply weighing you down. I will optimize your storage spaces and help you to recognize when you have reached the limits of your storage capacities. Ultimately, though, the decision to give things away is yours.
What about maintenance?
Since no organized space stays organized without regular maintenance (putting away and purging), it is my goal to create systems for you that will make maintenance as simple and fast as possible and to teach you during our time together how to fit maintenance into your schedule. If, however, you simply don't have the time or desire to maintain your systems, we can discuss establishing an on-going maintenance relationship.
How does payment work?
Payment is due at the end of each session and can be made in cash or with a check. Discounted rates are available when buying a package of hours. Payment is due in advance to secure discounted rates.
Am I ready?
If you are tired and frustrated with not being able to find things when you need them and wishing the clutter would all just go away, then you are ready! You can have the peace of mind that comes with well-ordered spaces. Don't put this off any longer.
